DIY Natural Cleaning Tips

About 7 years ago, my son was in the hospital at 14 months old for a respiratory issue.  He had a severe reaction to a virus.  Since that time he has always been very sensitive to chemicals and air pollutants.  I started using Norwex for the majority of my cleaning.  I sell it now and believe that it is the BEST microfiber product you can find on the market.  I've tried everything from E-cloth to what you find in Target and Wal-mart.  Norwex is certainly more expensive, but it lasts longer and is more effective.  Aside from microfiber, there are a plethora of DIY cleaning solutions for those who want less chemicals in their home environment.

First, hydrogen peroxide is one of the best natural sources for cleaning.  It is basically OxyClean in a bottle for A LOT less than the name brand.  You can use it to clean tile, spills on your carpet, and in your laundry instead of bleach.

I also use white vinegar for lots of things too.  I make a mixture of water, vinegar, and rubbing alcohol to clean my hardwood floors.  I use the same solution to spray down my appliances and granite when they need a little extra shine.  If you add a little essential oil or orange oil it makes a great cleaner for wood and leather furniture.

Baking soda is also a great cleaner.  You can mix it with hydrogen perioxide and use it as a grout cleaner, stainless steel cleaner, or tub and toilet cleaner.  For the toilet, add a little vinegar (one tablespoon) to that concoction and it will bubble up like commercial cleaners.  You can use plain baking soda on your carpet before you vacuum to get rid of musty smells.

There are lots of other uses for these products and so many others out there.  I will keep blogging my findings and ideas to help keep our environment and air clean!
